Thompson Pianos rent pianos with the option to own.
With pianos becoming increasingly popular, why not rent the piano first to see if you like it before committing to the purchase?
Reasons why you should choose Thompson Pianos:
- Value for money: Pre-owned upright pianos from as little as £20 per week and grand pianos from £50 per week.
- Personal: Our customer service advisers are here to help, if it’s your first piano then we are sure you’ll have lots of questions for us. Don’t worry though, no question is too small and we’re always delighted to help!
- Practical: You can cancel your rental agreement from the half way point and arrange for the piano to be collected at no additional cost, or swap the instrument for another and start up a new plan from scratch. You can of course carry on renting the piano until the instrument is yours to keep forever!

Most of our product listings have multiple images, descriptions, measurements and we are working hard on making sure demo videos are provided for each instrument.
Renting a piano from us has never been easier; you don’t even have to leave the comfort of your own home! However, if you’d like a more personal touch you can either come and visit us in person or we can arrange a virtual appointment for you. Payment plans
Here at Thompson Pianos we are offering payment plans over 6, 12, 18, or 24 months. This also applies to our piano accessories range, which includes: Piano stools, heat mats for underfloor heating, piano lamps, castor cups and covers.
If you keep up all the pre-selected payments its simple… The piano is yours to keep. If you want to return the piano, then half of your pre-selected payment plan must be paid. We can then arrange collection at no additional fee.
We’ve tried to create a plan that works equally well for customers that want to purchase a piano and for customers who have decided playing the piano might not be for them.
When can I start playing my new piano?
After completing your contract with us and paying your first rental instalment, you’ll be sent an email from our online store. You will then receive a phone call from one of our members of staff to arrange the delivery for you.
We aim to deliver all acoustic pianos by our professional delivery team within 7 – 14 working days from your order date. If you have requested one of our instruments that is out of stock, then these times may have to be extended but an adviser will be able to give you an up to date ETA or even offer you an alternative option that may currently be in stock.

The reason our lead time may seem longer than some other retailers is that acoustic pianos are individual instruments and require meticulous pre-delivery checks to ensure our quality control standards are always met.
Damage
We’d like to point out that when renting one of our acoustic pianos it is the responsibility of the customer to ensure the piano is covered under your home insurance. If any damage occurs to the piano during the rental period you must let us know immediately. We will assess the damage and provide a written quote for repair work required which you are obligated to pay for in full.
Simplified summary of our rent-to-own
If you pay all of your monthly payments in full, during your pre-selected payment plan, then the piano is yours to keep. No strings attached (pardon the pun!)
If you want to cancel the agreement after having paid half of your payment plan, for example 6 of a 12-month plan and the piano has been well cared for and kept in original condition (undamaged), then we will cancel the plan and arrange for the piano to be collected.
Please note that if you are considering cancelling your piano plan then please contact our customer service team as we cannot arrange piano collection without prior notification.
Thompson Pianos have decided to have a maximum of 1 rental per customer, however, educational institutions are exempt from this.
